Crippled Symmetries explores fragile deviations from the familiar – moments where sound\, image and perception reveal hidden connections. The programme explores hidden relationships between voice and instrument\, nature and technology\, memory and environment. Through exchange and experimentation\, the workshop opens a space for discovering different approaches to sound\, listening and musical creation. \n\n\n\nwith Theo Nabicht\, Kirstin Maria Pientka\, Jonathan Heilbron\, Ana Maria Rodriguez and Thomas Bruns \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHay Festival Arequipa 2026 – Crippled Symmetries: Sound Massages\n\n\n\nSaturday\, 7 November 2026\, 15:00–19:00Biblioteca personal de Mario Vargas Llosa \n\n\n\nSound Massages(after Pascal Battus and Thierry Madiot) \n\n\n\nCrippled Symmetries invites audiences to discover new ways of listening\, where sound becomes a space for encounter\, resonance\, and imagination. A sound massage opens a field of listening and inner perception of extraordinary closeness and intimacy. Very close to the ears\, yet without touching them\, delicate sounds are created with small everyday objects. These subtle sounds reveal a microscopic inner world\, surprising the listener through their fragility and detail. \n\n\n\nDeveloped by the French sound artists and improvisers Pascal Battus and Thierry Madiot\, the massages sonores create a unique experience between performance and listening. DESCRIPTION:Goethe-Institut Peru\, Auditorium \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRetama Kollektiv / Crippled Symmetries Festival © Kai Bienert\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCrippled Symmetries – RetamaA Portrait of the Retama Women Composers’ Collective\n\n\n\nRetama is the first Peruvian collective of women composers of contemporary music. Founded in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic\, the collective aims to make music by women composers more visible and to create spaces for interdisciplinary collaboration. In cooperation with Retama\, Crippled Symmetries presents four commissioned works that bring indigenous ritual and musical traditions into contemporary artistic contexts. for viola\, bass clarinet\, electronics and visuals \n\n\n\nThe work draws on the ritual offerings of the Uros community and their connection with the sun\, the earth and the waters of Lake Titicaca. DESCRIPTION:Universidad de Cuenca\, Fundación Zaldumbide Rosales\, Conservatorio Bolívar\, Universidad de las Artes (Ecuador) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRETRUCO: Loop Infinito\n\n\n\nInitiated by Ana González Gamboa and Ana María Rodríguez\, RETRUCO: Loop Infinito brings together musicians and composers from Ecuador\, Argentina\, Colombia\, and Germany in an international co-production with Ensemble KNM Berlin. At its core is a question of transformation and renewal: the European concept of „Stunde Null“ encounters Andean understandings of cyclical time\, memory\, and community. Two new works by González Gamboa and Rodríguez will be developed during a residency in Ecuador.
