…make beauty out of debris…
for two perfomers, percussion, electronics and video projection
Anyone who experienced the 2001/2002 financial crisis in Argentina and the associated social phenomenon of cartoneros (cardboard and rubbish collectors) will understand the work of AnA Maria Rodriguez and Juan Felipe Waller primarily as a tribute to these people.
»…make beauty out of debris…« – under this title, the Argentinian/Mexican composer and performer team Rodriguez/Waller explores the cyclical from the perspective of upcycling. In the form of a three-dimensional soundscape, the artists recycle the sound of paper, self-built instruments, cardboard and packaging material that they find at the respective locations. These materials were once living forest, then consumables and waste – now they are used as instruments and reactivate the poetry inherent in their first life – nature.
At the centre of the performance are large, sculptural cardboard boxes that are collected and transformed to create different resonances. Cardboard boxes and similar recyclable waste materials can be found in supermarkets, shops and shopping centres all over the world.
