What is it that is communicated when a piece of music is presented? Is it only the sound information or are there other »underlying« elements that can be decisive in conveying a particular message between the performers and the audience? The project »How it really is…« examines, investigates, and questions the practice of chamber music.

In that sense, the programme highlights the practice of chamber music as a non-hierarchical, collective and democratic practice by presenting works from the early 70s (years of rebellion, discussions, open form concepts, etc.) and confronting them with contemporary works in which the theme of communication through the use of technology for an intermedial and digital environment will be developed.

The programme will include three commissioned compositions by three Latin American composers: Ana María Rodríguez (ARG), Rodolfo Acosta (COL) and Claudia Sofía Alvarez (PER) along with works from the experimental contemporary music repertoire of composers based in Peru, Colombia and Europe.

Auf welche Weise findet Kommunikation in einem Kammermusikkonzert statt? Wie werden Botschaften zwischen den Musikern und dem Publikum übertragen? Außerhalb der physischen, performativen Handlungen eines Musikers und seines Instruments findet eine außermusikalische Konversation zwischen der Musik, den Künstler*innen und dem Publikum statt. »How it really is«, ein zeitgenössisches Kammermusikprojekt, versucht, diese zugrunde liegenden kommunikativen Elemente zu erforschen.

Mit Unterstützung der Ernst von Siemens Musikstiftung vergibt »How it really is« Aufträge für neue Werke an die Komponist*innen Rodolfo Acosta, Claudia Sofia Alvarez und Ana Maria Rodriguez, die von Musiker*innen aus Kolumbien, Deutschland und Peru aufgeführt werden. Das Projekt nutzt Technologie, um das zentrale Thema der Kommunikation zu erforschen. Während der Aufführung werden verschiedene Kameraperspektiven – Nahaufnahmen und Kamerafahrten – auf das Publikum projiziert. Die Perspektiven ermöglichen es dem Publikum, die Ereignisse auf der Bühne durch die Augen der Darsteller*innen zu erleben, was zu einem subjektiveren, emotionaleren Konzerterlebnis führt. Neben Stücken der drei beauftragten Komponist*innen werden bei den Konzerten auch Werke aus den frühen 70er Jahren aufgeführt, einer Zeit der Rebellion und Diskussion in den darstellenden Künsten.

Als kultureller Austausch zwischen Kolumbien, Deutschland und Peru untersucht »How it really is« kulturelle Gemeinsamkeiten und Unterschiede in der Kunst der Kammermusik. Alle Ähnlichkeiten und Widersprüche tragen zum Ziel des Projekts bei, mehrere Perspektiven zu präsentieren und die interkulturelle Kommunikation zu stärken.

»How it really is« is a joint project of Naz Dúo, Ensemble KNM Berlin, Ensamble CG and Colombian Contemporary Music Circle (CO), with the support of the Universidad Nacional de Música (PE) and in collaboration with Goethe-Institut (Lima).
